Apple cluster

So Simon and I are working on a poster to take to some University event next week where we’re hoping to drum up some new business for the Bionformatics Support Unit. This of course entails pretty pictures so we went to take some of our photogenic Mac OS X “Workgroup Cluster for Bioinformatics”.

Here be the results (including one of the slightly less photogenic me) (for the full size pics, right-click and “View Image”)

Hooray for digital cameras! Thanks to Simon for wielding the camera.

So.. currently at Newcastle, 4 bioinformaticians are sporting beards. Simon and myself have the best beards (Simon wins by virtue of having the darker and more dense growth), Matt frequently removes the edges of his to produce an ungentlemanly ‘goatee’ and Phil has grown one on the grounds that it has been too painful to shave after the facial injuries from his bicycle accident. It would never have approached my lush whiskerage anyway and I suspect it will come off soon. I am trying to promote the beard as this years ‘must-have’ fashion accessory for men. After everyone is sporting beards, I will try to reintroduce the top hat, bowler, fedora, homberg, trilby etc. I suggest http://www.jameslock.co.uk/ as a potential place to purchase such items

    Sounds good to me! :-)

I see you are at once promoting a return to the 50s and abolishing the monarchy! I can’t wait to hear your policies on other matters!

Of course Jamie is also one of the bearded many! I don’t see that there is necessarily a clash between a return to the days of yore and a desire to abolish the parasitic monarchy. By the way many happy returns Liz on your 80th.

At least my poilicies remain steady unlike the chameleonic form of Mr C! ;) (or indeed any currently serving politician). To drag a particular note of politics into this I was delighted to see Mr Blair owning up to breaking the law recently and attempting to disguise it as an attempt to bring particular ‘expertise’ to the Lords. What a charming man.

Im sorry – if Cherie’s hair was the result of a £7700 spend, it simply wasn’t worth it. However I did like the Times comment on this..

"The Labour Party got a top-flight QC to argue its case for a whole month — and she only asked for £275 a day. Imagine if she’d billed them by the hour from chambers."

    Indeed!
